      Parent/Guardian & Candidate Information Session
      Monday, October 24th, 2022.
      7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

      Grade seven or older Catholics are invited prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Sacrament of Confirmation is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to give Confirmation Candidates the proper understanding of how to live as followers of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is received through the anointing with oil & the laying on of hands by the bishop or a priest appointed by him.  

      To register your child for sacramental preparation, please follow these steps:

      1. Complete the Registration Form on this page & Click SUBMIT.
      2. Bring a copy of your child’s Baptismal Certificate to the office.
        1. If you cannot find the proof of baptism, please contact the parish where your child was baptized to obtain it.
        2. If that parish is St. Therese simply fill in the registration form and we’ll verify the baptism in our records.
        3. If your child is not baptized or was not baptized in the Catholic Church, parents must contact the parish office and meet with the priest to discuss the matter.
      3. Sponsor’s Attestation Letter must be completed upon registration.
      4. To help offset the cost of materials, please pay $60 registration fee by cheque or cash.  Please make cheques payable to: St. Therese Parish, Courtice.
      5. Registration will take place after the following Sunday Masses (9am, 11am & 7pm) in the parish hall (Please, bring all required documents for registration):
        1. Sunday September 18th , September 25th , October 2nd & October 9th.
      6.  Your family must be registered with St. Therese Parish. Click Here for our parish registration form. If you are registered with another parish, we require a letter from that Church giving permission to celebrate the sacrament at St. Therese Parish.
      7. Throughout the catechetical year, we ask you parents/guardians to help your children cover study materials provided.
      8. There will be Mandatory Educational Masses for both the parent and child.(see the schedule provided below).
      9. Your contact email will will be our main means of communication with you, the parent/guardian.

      The parish community is looking forward to supporting your child in prayer as they prepare to receive the sacraments and celebrate them with your child and your family.

  • Preparing for Sacrament of Confirmation

        Celebrating Mass is a very important part of your child’s preparation for Confirmation. We encourage Candidates to attend Sunday Mass on a regular basis. Masses are available on the St. Therese YouTube channel.

        St. Therese Weekend Masses
        Saturday 4:30pm
        Sunday 9:00 am, 11:00am and 7:00 pm


        Mass Reflection Cards

        • Each Candidate is required to complete a Mass Reflection card after attending or viewing Mass.
        • Reflection cards will be made available on November 27 (first Saturday class).
        • Please have your child bring their completed Mass Reflection cards to the following Saturday Class to initiate group discussion.

        • Sponsor’s Attestation Letter must be completed upon registration.

        Each candidate preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation needs a Confirmation Sponsor. Being a Confirmation Sponsor is a great responsibility. Sponsors are mentors and spiritual friends. Confirmation Sponsors must be mature in their faith and at least 16 years of age. They must be capable and comfortable answering questions the Confirmation Candidate might have about their faith. The Sponsor must have received the Sacrament of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation and be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church. Candidates’
        parents cannot be their sponsor. However, a candidate’s parent is able to stand in by proxy in the event that the sponsor is unable to attend the Candidate’s Confirmation Mass.

    • Patron Saint Project
      • Patron Saint Project

        Each candidate is required to choose a Confirmation Patron Saint. Candidates will select a Saint whose faith witness inspires them to live a life of greater faithfulness. A saint that is admired for what they have done and will be a role model and spiritual companion. Girls may choose male Saints and boys may choose female Saints. Patron Saint Project is due by April 23 rd , 2022.     • Apostolic Service within the Parish
      • Apostolic Service within the Parish

        Candidates are required to incorporate a Christian Service component into their faith journey. We strongly encourage each candidate to get involved in the life and growth of our Parish Community and to build strong relationships within our Faith Family by taking part in at least 3 of the following.

        • Stations of the Cross (during Lent)
        • Actively participating in the Youth Mass
        • Praying the Rosary (more information to be made available)
        • EDGE youth group (1st and 3 rd Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm
        • Reading at the Enrollment Mass, one of the youth Masses or at the Retreat
        • Altar Serving

        Confirmation Candidates and their parent(s) / guardian(s) are required to attend the Rite of Enrollment Mass.
        Sponsors are invited, but they are not required to attend.

        In preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, Candidates are required to attend Saturday morning classes in either the Parish Hall or in the church.

        • Saturday classes are from 9:30am to 11:00am
        • Candidates are reminded to turn off their cell phones in order to eliminate any distractions.

    • Sacrament of Reconciliation & Date

        Each Candidate is required to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation/Confession. Confession is asking for forgiveness and receiving God’s Grace to do better.

        Confessions will be heard privately in the church on  Saturday May 6, 2023 at 9am.  Assigned times will be advised at a later date.

        Candidates preparing for Confirmation must attend a day of retreat on April 22nd from 9:30am to 1:00pm.
        The day will begin with the celebration of Mass. Candidates will then gather in the Parish Hall for reflections, games, prayer and lunch.

    • Confirmation Practice Dates

        In order for each Candidate to be well prepared for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation Mass, they will be required to attend a practice session right after the 7pm Mass. Sponsors and/or parents are welcomed, but they are not required to attend.

        Group 2     Thursday,     May 18th, 2023 - 7:45 pm to 8:15 pm

        The celebrant for the Sacrament of Confirmation Mass will be Bishop Daniel Miehm. Candidates and their Sponsors are requested to meet in the church at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled Mass. The first 4 pews on each side will be reserved for Candidates and their Sponsors. Assigned seating will be made available at the practice. Family and friends may sit in any of the available pews.

        Group 1  Saturday May 20th, 2023 – 10 am 
        Group 2  Saturday May 20th, 2022 – 1 pm
